The flow of a medium via a pipe can be managed with the assistance of a trunnion ball valve, which is a type of quarter-turn valve. Due to the fact that the “free-floating” variation of the ball valve is the industry norm, the trunnion type marks a significant development in valve construction. At one end, the ball of a trunnion ball valve is connected to the stem, and at the other end, it is connected to the trunnion. The ball is maintained in its position with the help of this improvement to the original design. Trunnion ball valves are the superior form of ball valves while working with high pressure. When the valve is in operation, the ball floats just downstream of the seat ring, closing off the flow on one side alone. The stem torque is also increased.

  • Seats with a Spring Loading Mechanism

Ball valves positioned on a trunnion have spring-loaded seats. By applying pressure, the ball in a mounted ball valve is pushed against the seats, forming a seal. Due to the high pressure required to achieve a reliable seal, ball valves cannot be used in low-pressure systems.

  • Ball valves installed on a trunnion can be used with either low or high pressure. The spring-loaded seats will produce a seal in low or no-pressure situations and will continue to function in high-pressure settings.

Any additional pressure applied to the valve is absorbed by the trunnion and stem of a trunnion-mounted ball valve, resulting in decreased operational expenses. As a result, the operating torque can be reduced, negating the need for a bulky actuator.
